Autopilot feels safe but it’s easy to forget how much control you really have over your whole life. If you’re dealing with a lot of uncertainty, stressed out, or overwhelmed, you might feel less like yourself and less powerful. Defining Your Relationship with Uncertainty is the freedom that comes from accepting the unknown and choosing how you engage with it. You can decide to act decisively even when the path isn’t clear, staying adaptable and resilient.

Living with Intention involves making mindful choices that align with your values and goals. It’s about setting deliberate priorities and doing things that lead you towards a  meaningful life. When you live with intention, every step you take is a part of something bigger.

SYMPTOMS OF UNCHECKED AUTO-PILOT

Our autopilot settings are habits we’ve made, including our thought habits, often unintentionally. We are often not consciously aware that we are making these decisions. Our autopilot settings always seem logical, safe and easy to ourselves, even if we don’t like the results we are creating with them.

These automatic behaviours can make us feel more powerless than we truly are. Here are some common obstacles that arise from unchecked autopilot:

  • The things that could inspire you seem unrealistic or like too much work.
  • Taking on too much is your default mode, leaving you always playing catch-up.
  • Your needs consistently fall to the bottom of your priority list.
  • You’re perpetually waiting for the “right” time to act.
  • The fear of failure can paralyze you.
  • You wish someone would tell you exactly what to do and guarantee it will work.
  • You worry about the worst-case scenario and overlook the best-case scenario.
  • You care more about what others think than what you think.
  • You prefer to do everything yourself to maintain control.
  • You’d be embarrassed for anyone to know how much time you actually waste.
  • You keep trying new systems to get yourself to follow through.
  • You compare yourself to others and wish you were more motivated.
